What to do when you miss a deadline

Missing a deadline feels final, and for that specific award it usually is — most scholarship sponsors don't accept late applications, and asking rarely helps.

What does help: note the cycle. Many scholarships run annually on nearly identical dates, so a missed September deadline is a known September deadline for next year, and the essay you didn't finish is still useful.

Then redirect the effort immediately rather than sitting with it. There's almost always another award closing within a month, and the materials you prepared transfer.
