State aid deadlines and the FAFSA delay

Several state grant programs have long-standing FAFSA-based deadlines built around the form opening on October 1. With the 2024-25 launch pushed to late December, those deadlines became difficult or impossible to meet as written.

A number of states responded by extending deadlines. Others didn't announce changes quickly, leaving students unsure whether they'd already missed out.

Check your state's higher education agency directly rather than relying on a scholarship site's cached date. This is a year where secondhand deadline information is unusually unreliable.
