Fall deadlines you can still catch in November

September may be past, but the fall cycle runs well into December, and November is thinner than October by a noticeable margin.

National programs are still live in this window, and several of the largest have November or December cutoffs. The applicant surge, though, happens around the September dates—which means the same effort in November competes against a smaller field.

This is peak season for institutional aid. Many colleges' early action and early decision deadlines pull the CSS Profile and FAFSA into November, and school-specific scholarships frequently share those dates without being advertised separately.

Competitions cluster here too. Several major writing, art, and science contests open in fall with winter deadlines, and their entry requirements are a submission rather than a full application—which makes them fast if you already have the work.

Local and regional awards are quietly the best use of November. Community foundations often run fall cycles, and the geographic limit does more for your odds than anything you could write.

Your essays exist by now. A November application is usually an adaptation job, which changes the calculus—twenty minutes of tailoring against a real award is a much better trade than it was in August.

Check your intended colleges' financial aid pages specifically this month. Institutional deadlines are the highest-dollar, lowest-competition items on the fall calendar, and they're the ones with no external reminders attached.
